Abstract:

Background and Objective: Diabetes as a metabolic disorder can cause memory and learning impairment. In recent years, the effect of plant extracts on the treatment of diabetes mellitus has been raised. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of isorhmnetin administration on learning and memory disability in an experimental model of streptozotocin-induced diabetes mellitus in rats. Materials and Methods: In the present study, for inducing diabetes, streptozotocin was administered at a dose of 60 mg/kg (intraperitoneal) in male rats. Intraperitoneal injection of isorhmnetin (10 mg/kg) was performed after induction of diabetes (10 mg/kg) for 12 weeks. Control groups also received relevant doses. Y-maze and passive avoidance tests were used for assessing of learning and memory ability. The serum glucose and body weight were determined before and 12 weeks after diabetic development. Results: Behavior data showed that compared to control rats, alternation percentage in Y-maze task (p Conclusion: This study reveals that isorhmnetin administration to diabetic rats attenuates learning and memory impairment.

Chronic Oral Pelargonidin Alleviates Learning and Memory Disturbances in Streptozotocin-Diabetic Rats

Diabetes mellitus is accompanied with disturbances in learning, memory, and cognitive skills in the humans and experimental animals. Due to the anti-diabetic and antioxidant activity of pelargonidin (PG), this research study was conducted to evaluate the efficacy of chronic oral PG on alleviating learning and memory disturbance in streptozotocin-diabetic rats. Male Wistar rats were divided into...

Metformin ameliorates learning and memory deficits in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats

Background and Objective: Diabetes mellitus (DM) in long-term is associated with learning and memory decline. Metformin is an anti-diabetic drug with antioxidant and memory-improving effects. Thus, this research study was conducted to assess the effect of metformin on learning and memory in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: In the present study, male Wistar rats (n=32) were randomly assign...

Crocin Improved Learning and Memory Impairments in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats

Objective(s): Crocin influences many biological functions including memory and learning. The present study was aimed to investigate the effects of crocin on learning and memory impairments in streptozotocine-induced diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: Diabetes was induced by intraperitoneal (IP) injection of streptozotocin (STZ, 45 mg/kg). Transfer latency (TL) paradigm in elevated plus-maze ...

Rosmarinic acid mitigates learning and memory disturbances in amyloid β(25–35)-induced model of Alzheimer’s disease in rat

Abstract Background and Objective: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is a weakening neurodegenerative disorder typified by increased b-amyloid (Ab) deposition and neuronal dysfunction causing to impaired learning and memory. Among proposed risk factors, induced oxidative stress is a main cause for incidence of the disease. The aim of this study was to determine the effects of the rosmarinic acid on lear...
